Dave has been playing guitar since he turned fourteen and decided to pick up a cheap 1960's acoustic his father kept from his younger days. As challenging as it was to play, a great love for the instrument was born, and he commited wholeheartedly to making music.
It was also at this time that David discovered God's love for him, and he began serving in the ministry of music. He has taken numerous opportunities to exercise his talents, and he continues to pursue his calling with the support of his home church, King's Fire. He has shared his passion for music and the love of Christ by preaching the Gospel, leading worship, and teaching guitar both in the Hudson Valley and in several nations throughout the world.
As he started to increase his skills on the guitar, David also began studying music privately with tutors, continuing his education at SUNY Orange, and further establishing his musicianship with experienced instrumentalists and graduates of Crane School of Music, SUNY Purchase, and SUNY New Paltz. He has also devoted time to develop his vocal technique through extensive training with local classical and contemporary experts. David's persistance to advance in his field has given him the chance to learn and perform with prominent Christian artists such as Roy Fields and Dustin Smith. He learned about guitar maintenance and repairs from an older luthier who worked with none other than the late Les Paul himself!
David began teaching in 2003, only four years after he started learning guitar! Therefore, he exemplifies to his students that diligent practice brings a quick progression of results and encourages that there is always more to learn. David's time in retail and lessons at Alto of Orange County led him to Rock Camp through one of his students. He currently teaches group classes at West Point as a contractor through their SKIES program. He also teaches privately throughout the Hudson Valley, participates in Rock Camp annually as a director, and holds weekly lessons at New York School of Music, proudly inspiring others to discover the guitar in all styles and levels of difficulty.
David tutors a broad demographic, from the age of five to over fifty! He has taught here in the Hudson Valley, online via Skype, and overseas in India! He has experience instructing students with special needs such as immobility, ADHD, and Cerebral Palsy. There is truly no one excluded from the gift of music, and David will see to it that none of his apprentices fail!
